Tokyo 42, an Old-school Inspired Shooter

Tokyo 42 is a new shooter from SMAC Games and publisher Mode 7 with a very unique look to it. SMAC describes it as “the lovechild of Syndicate and GTA 1.” After watching the brilliant trailer, it reminds me a bit of LEGO, with a dash of The Sims thrown in for good measure. It sounds odd, but might surprise you.

Check out the trailer below:

Featuring an open-world single player mode, this new top-down style shooter is set in a futuristic Tokyo. Plot details are scant at this point, but according to SMAC, “the game will see you become an assassin and uncover a dark conspiracy that will affect everyone.”

Sounds intriguing.

Polygon reported that Tokyo 42 will come with a sneaky multiplayer arena. In it, players will be able to blend into crowds by changing their appearance, allowing them to maneuver unseen and ambush their opponents. Various tools and weapons will be available for purchase to assist players in navigating this distinctly colorful and creative world.

Currently, Tokyo 42 is still in the pre-alpha stage, but it is expected to release in 2017. See the screenshots included below for a few more looks at this upcoming game.
