The much discussed arrival of the Oculus Rift, HTC Vive and PlayStation VR headsets is finally upon us after years – some might even say decades – of speculation and development of VR technology. Now that we can finally dive into these fully realized 3D worlds, here are three of our most anticipated VR games that you can expect in 2016.
One of the most interesting challenges facing developers is how to make VR games intuitively engaging while providing new experiences utilizing the technology. Eagle Flight is a game that will attempt to utilize the technology to its fullest, letting you control the eagle you fly guide through a post-apocalyptic Paris simply by tilting your head. Eagle Flight will be available on the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive for PC and PlayStation VR.
Another example of game makers experimenting with the new opportunities that VR will allow, The Climb takes a concept that would most likely not be engaging in a 2D setting and gives it new potential with VR. Essentially a rock climbing simulator, The Climb sends you scaling hundred foot cliffs in a tropical paradise. The Climb is a CryTek game, so expect some stunning visuals in addition to an exciting VR experience. The Climb will be available on the Oculus Rift.
A flagship title for the Oculus Rift, Eve: Valkyrie delivers the sort of experience that movies and pop culture have been predicting for decades. Eve: Valkyrie is an AAA title that places you in the cockpit of a starship and pits you against other players and factions in a MMO universe. A copy of Eve: Valkyrie will be bundled with every Oculus Rift sold, and will be a make or break example of the how well the first generation of VR headsets can engage gamers. Eve: Valkyrie will also be available for PlayStation VR, although it will be sold separately.
