Oh KickStarter, you’ve done so much for video games.
Plenty of hits have been produced because of KickStarter success, such as Darkest Dungeon and Armello. Besides making recreations possible that no one asked for; looking at you Shaq Fu. Now we can thank KickStarter for getting something else exciting started; A Redwall video game.
Yes, Redwall, that children’s story book about mice and hares with swords and spears. It also spawned a generation of fantasy loving imaginative children who are now adults, wishing they could recreate the magical experience of being at Redwall from a more personal perspective. The upcoming game being developed by Soma Games – Redwall: A Warrior Reborn – hopes to do just that.
Set during the first novel of the same name as the titular series, A Warrior Reborn features a whole new viewpoint of the epic story of Matthias becoming the warrior of Redwall abbey. According to the creators, the synopsis is as follows:
A fantasy adventure game where you control the actions of a Redwall outsider, on his quest to find the Warrior’s Star, a mythical relic believed to be recovered by Martin the Warrior long ago. Called by the spirit of Martin himself, you must secretly explore abbey halls, solve ancient riddles and unlock hidden passageways without being discovered in your search of the mysterious treasure. But beware of those who seek the Star for darker purposes. The fate of Mossflower is in your hands. Lead on, brave adventurer. Your quest awaits!
There hasn’t been too much said on the project since the team up with Soma Games in 2014, but the project is still alive and active on KickStarter. With any luck we’ll be traveling to Mossflower in the digital age for the first time very soon.
