If Sony wasn’t dominating the home console market enough, now there’s this. In the upcoming firmware update 3.50, codenamed MUSASHI, the Playstation 4 plans to introduce streaming to home computer devices with their Remote Play function. It’s unknown how this will work as of now, since no information has been revealed for the beta testers let alone the public, but one can guess that it would be similar to the Remote Play function supported by the Playstation Vita.
Of course that’s not the only thing the new update has planned. MUSASHI will offer a number of social features like the ability to turn your profile offline, friend notifications and user scheduled events. Admittedly these are things that Microsoft consoles have had since the Xbox 360. Better late than never though, right?
Instant streaming to Dailymotion is also coming with the new MUSASHI update. If YouTube, Twitch and UStream weren’t to your liking, well now you have Dailymotion as well. Variety is the spice of life after all.
The beta for 3.50 kicked off on March 2nd, so PS4 users can expect to receive the update soon enough. It’s also worth noting the nickname that they chose for this firmware update. Musashi was the titular character of the Playstation 1 title Brave Fencer Musashi and then again in The Legend of Musashi on the Playstation 2; perhaps this is a hint that Sony is planning to revive the series? Or maybe that’s just my wishful thinking . . .
