Lock and Load in Tuque’s new Twin Stick, Livelock

Developer Tuque Games is working on a new top-down, twin stick shooter. It’s still a bit early on (it comes out later this year sometime) to know a great deal about the game, but it may well turn out to be a gem.

Livelock “takes place following a cataclysmic gamma ray burst that wiped out humanity.” Before this science fiction disaster occurred, certain humans (my money is on the rich ones) “had their consciousness uploaded and combined with the latest advances of a super A.I. project called SATCOM,” according to ArcGames. These copies, or backups, became known as Capital Intellects. In the wake of the aforementioned strange gamma ray catastrophe, three of these Captial Intellects were awakened and installed into weaponized machines in an attempt to end the infinite war which has gripped…Earth, I guess. No word yet on just who exactly is fighting whom, or why. Or who decided to impart three human consciousness’s on robots, for that matter.

Ok, so the plot is little thin. A little more than a little, perhaps.

Livelock is meant to be a three-player cooperative shooter, but it can be completed solo as well. Of the three available characters, only one has so far been introduced: Hex. Hex, by the way, was supposed to have been an e-sports gamer of prolific skill during his human life. With an aggressive style, he is the damage dealer of the group and wields a variety of delightfully destructive weapons. In order for Tuque Games to create a bit of depth and strategy in this upcoming robotic craziness, I’d expect to see some version of a tank or melee character and a healer/buffs type next.

Check out the announcement trailer below:

If you can get past the awkward voiceover from Hex, Livelock looks like a quality title. Find it on PC, Xbox One and PS4 later this year.
