As promised, the first round of free DLC for Star Wars: Battlefront is coming to gamers over the next week and EA has released a new trailer and an announcement detailing the new Turning Point game mode that will be featured.
The Battle of Jakku fits neatly in the Star Wars: Battlefront canon as an event occurring immediately after the defeat of the Empire at the Battle of Endor. It is assumedly inspired by some of the footage of a downed Star Destroyer on a desert planet that has featured prominently in the trailers for the upcoming Star Wars: The Force Awakens film that is coming out in December.
The new game mode, Turning Point, is a 40-person battle that revolves around either side commanding three control points that are scattered throughout the map. The announcement emphasized the chaotic ebb and flow of the new mode. DICE concept artist David Grandert is quoted in the announcement, saying “We wanted to portray a battle completely surrounding you, in every direction. Debris is falling from the sky, telling the story of battles above. On the surface of the planet you can see ground troops as well as X-wings, all taking part of the fight.”
Another map, entitled Graveyard of Giants, will be included in the DLC, although EA declined to detail what will make that map unique in the announcement, save to say that an Imperial Star Destroyer would come crashing to the ground mid-round.
The DLC will be available on December 1st for gamers who preordered Star Wars: Battlefront, and a week later for everyone else.
