April 2016 Video Game Releases

With April right around the corner, it’s time to look at some of the titles that are about to be released. April has some heavy hitters for basically every console, although if truth is being told the Xbox One is lacking a little bit compared to the PlayStation 4 and PC releases planned. Putting that aside, here are some of the biggest names to appear in this upcoming month.

Quantum Break

We’ve talked quite extensively about Quantum Break here on The Gamer Daily, so I’m not going to waste too many words on Remedy Entertainment’s latest project. It’s worth noting that Quantum Break plans to be a video game with a direct Television tie-in, much like what was attempted (quite unsuccessfully) with Defiance a few years ago though. I have no idea what angle Remedy is attempting with this mixed media release, but I do know that they are exceptional storytellers so there’s a chance that Quantum Break will be more of a success story than Defiance could ever hope for. If you’re new to the story of Quantum Break, I suggest you check out the preview we did previously which covers the game more extensively.

Dark Souls 3

Coming off the success of Bloodborne, FromSoftware has gone back to their Souls series to give us another helping of brutal gameplay that only they could deliver. Dark Souls III is going to follow closely on the heels of its predecessor, Dark Souls II. The magic meter from Demon Souls will also return in Souls III, as will various multiplayer capabilities. This proves that FromSoftware has learned from the fans to mix the best of all the previous Souls games into their newest title – expect to die a lot and to rage quit even more. As a bonus for the hardcore fans, a comic will be released sometime in April that will correspond with Dark Souls III.

Ratchet and Clank

Two points need to be made right away for this upcoming Ratchet and Clank title. The first is that this isn’t a sequel, but a reimagining of the first game. The second thing is that it takes nods from many of the past games through mechanics and storytelling devices. Much like what I said about Dark Souls III, this new Ratchet and Clank will be a mish-mosh of the other games in the series in order to create the best experience for the player. Along with basically every other game that’s been discussed, the upcoming PS4 title developed by Insomniac games has a little extra something attached to it than just being a typical video game release. There’s a Ratchet and Clank movie in the works that’s rumored to be released sometime this year. Which is why the game got pushed back from its original 2015 release date until now ultimately – it has a better chance to promote hype for the film. What would we be without gimmicks, right?

Star Fox Zero/Guard

We’ve waited awhile for a new Star Fox game and since the footage for this one was shown a last year, fans of the series everywhere have been super excited. Zero plans to use the capabilities of the Wii U controller to its best abilities to make you feel in control of the action as much possible, not to mention the colors and graphics are so vibrant they practically pop off the screen and pull you in even more. It looks like it will be one of the best entries in the Star Fox franchise from the footage they’ve shown thus far. Also, speaking of gimmicks, one of Nintendo’s famous one-trick ponies is bundled game releases. In Star Fox Zero, you’ll also get Star Fox Guard which is a standalone tower defense game that really has nothing to do with the plot or point of Star Fox Zero. Like many things Nintendo has been up to lately, releasing Guard with Zero is random and unexpected, but not altogether unwanted.

This list barely scratches the surface of what will be available next month. Some other notable titles that are coming up include: The Banner Saga 2 (PC), Alienation (PS4), Dirt Rally (Xbox One, PS4) and Enter the Gungeon (PS4, PC). April will also be full of updates and DLC. Fallout 4, Destiny and Rock Band 4 are just a few titles getting a facelift in this next month. Plenty of opportunities will be available for just about every type of gamer in April, enjoy!
