Over the weekend, developer Io-Interactive announced the (new) official release date for the next installment of HITMAN, as well as the beta preceding it. Unfortunately, 47 is going to be fashionably late this time, as the original release date was scheduled for today.
The bald-headed, bar code toting assassin is on his way back to gamers worldwide, but this time will be different. For years, Agent 47 has remained well shrouded in mystery and intrigue. Each game saw a few more hints about the origin of this secretive man, but never enough to give a good sense of who he truly is, or just exactly how he came to be. Set twenty years ago at an undisclosed ICA recruitment facility, fans and newcomers alike may finally get some answers as to who this dangerous character truly is and how he became so closely associated with Diana Burnwood.
Io-Interactive has chosen to release this game in an episodic/DLC format, which may incur the ire of some. On the surface, it would seem an attempt to simply charge more money for the same amount of content, but it could also be the developer’s way of allowing themselves a sufficiently flexible schedule, ensuring a more quality product. Let us hope it’s the latter.
In any case, if you’re new to the franchise, you can buy the Intro Pack for $34.99, which includes all content available upon launch as well as Live Events and Contracts. Later, if you find yourself just champing at the bit for more stealthy mayhem, you can purchase the Upgrade Pack for an additional $29.99. Or, alternatively, you can grab the whole game, including all launch and future content, for $59.99.
As for the beta, it will go live for PS4 players on February 12th, 2015 and on February 19th for PC. However, in order participate in the beta you must first preorder the game. No beta on Xbox One has been announced at this time.
HITMAN will be released on March 11th, 2015 and will be available on Xbox One, PS4 and PC.
